"First Stage" has multiple meanings in its title.  While the sculpture represents a young ballerina's first artistic dance steps in front of an audience, this was also Tim's first performance on the stage of the bronze sculpture industry.  The symbolism and emotional ties continue as this sculpture was modeled in part from Tim's young daughter as she began her dance education while Tim was learning his bronze sculpting skills.
